Understanding chiropractic

Look through these resources to better understand chiropractic care and whether it is right for you.

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural, drug-free approach to health centered on the spine and nervous system. Using gentle, precise spinal adjustments, chiropractors locate and correct misalignments that can irritate nerves, limit movement, and affect your overall health. People visit chiropractors for back and neck pain, headaches, injuries, and to stay well.

Whiplash

Whiplash happens when the head is suddenly jerked backward, forward, or sideways. It happens most often in a rear-end car collision, but also in sports and falls. Muscles and ligaments can be stretched or torn and discs can bulge, even when the car shows little damage, and symptoms like headaches, dizziness, and shoulder or arm pain may not appear until weeks or months later. Treated early with specific adjustments, inflammation and scar tissue can often be minimized.

Mid back pain

The mid back, or thoracic spine, is made up of twelve vertebrae connected to your ribs. Long hours sitting at a computer or behind the wheel are common causes of pain here, with symptoms ranging from tightness and muscle spasm to sharp pain that wraps around to the front. Because mid back problems can mimic heart or breathing problems, they deserve a prompt examination. Adjustments restore motion to joints that are stuck and relieve the surrounding muscles.

Lower back pain

Improper sitting or lifting, overexertion, trauma, and inherited spinal problems can all contribute to low back pain. Common causes include irritated facet joints and bulging or herniated discs pressing on nearby nerves, producing numbness, tingling, or pain down the leg. Research shows that conservative chiropractic care is often safer and more effective than back surgery, and it has helped many patients avoid a risky operation.
